These Golden Alpine Earrings were a labor of love to create.
I really pushed my skills as a jeweler in order to bring these to life. To create them I utilized riveting, a form of cold connection that takes more attention to detail than one would think. You’ve got to drill the perfect sized hole, in the perfect spot, on two different pieces of metal, four times. It’s all got to line up just right or you have to start over, which I had to do quite a few times to finally get this design ready for the rivet. In addition to getting it lined up, hand making what are essentially the nails takes some trial, error, & patience too. Sawing out & filing a 2.5 mm piece of wire is no joke! Finally, to seal the deal on this cold connection it took a series of very calculated hammer strikes. I had to go slow, hit the wire with the perfect amount of force with my beloved hammer, to make this wire mushroom over just a little, all while making sure I didn’t miss & strike the precious 14k gold filled metal below. Finally, when all of the riveting was complete, I focused my attention on applying patina to select surfaces, which was just another focused step in this intricate, detailed pair of earrings.
